What are you supposed to think when your bestfriend tells you he's a vampire? At first, of course, I laughed, and thought it was a joke. But I wasn’t laughing when Conner proved that he was a vampire. I should start at the beginning. That morning he had asked me to meet him after school. I thought I had time for a quick talk, but it turned out to be more than that. The bell had rung and I was waiting at the flagpole that was near the side of the school. Conner came up behind me and wrapped one arm around my neck and put the other hand over my mouth and said, in a sorta creepy/weird voice, “What are you doing here all alone, little girl?” I stopped on his foot and licked his hand. As he pulled away I turned and said “waiting for you, stupid.” He looked at me and said, “I know that, but you didn’t have to stomp on my foot. That hurt.” He pouted for a moment. “And licking my hand,” he paused to rub his hand vigorously on his pants, “just gross.” I rolled my eyes. “It was the only way that i could think of to get your hand off my mouth.” “You could have pulled my hand way with your hand or are they broken.” He grabbed my hands and began to examine them. “Their fine,” I exclaimed, pulling my hands from his grip, “now what did you want to talk to me about?” He sighed, “I wanted to tell you that i’m a vampire.” I couldn’t help it, I burst out laughing. “Yeah right, and i’m the Queen of England. He shushed me. “Your jokes,” I said, after I regained my breath and ability to speak, “are getting better.” Suddenly, he grabbed my wrist. “Hey, let me go.!” I said. He didn’t answer, instead he glanced around a few times. Then, with seemingly superhuman strength, he pulled me behind the school. “Connor,” I said in an agitated tone, ”I don’t have time for this! I promised my mom I would go straight home after school and call her.” I pulled my wrist from his grasp. As I started to walk away, I realized that I didn’t really pull from his grasp. He was letting go and turning away. I’m about to round the corner when he says, “Sala.” I couldn’t help but turn around. There was a sadness in his voice that acted like strings that made me stop and turn. His expression was… sad, I guess, and his eyes were down cast. Then he looked up. “Sala,” he said again, “I had to get that off my chest You don’t seem to believe me but if you want me to prove it to you, I can.” I couldn’t help it, I was curious. “Alright,” I said, “prove to me that your a vampire.” He laughed at that. ”I like your enthusiasm,” he said, jokingly, but then his tone became serious, “but you have to promise not to tell anyone. No one, Sala, no one.” I knew immediately that it was serious. He doesn't usually use my real name, he almost always calls me sal or, to my utmost annoyance, sally. So if he calls me sala I know he means business and thinking back this is the third time he’s said my name. “ I swear on my life,” I say. “Well that’s good,” he said,”well here goes nothing.” he steps forward and slips his arms under my arms and around my waist. I am so startled that I didn’t realize that my feet had left the ground. I was about to slap him, when he said,”Don’t look down.”Only then did I realize that we were in the air and any time I get an order like ‘don’t look down,’ I look down!!! Conner should have known this. I glanced down to see my feet 3-5 feet off the ground and rising. I don’t like heights, but his voice was so calm, so at ease, that I realized he had done this before and had probably lifted heavier things than me into the old and unused bell tower on the school roof. I knew that he wouldn't let me fall. Even though I knew this I couldn’t help but close my eyes, bury my face in his chest, wrap my arms around his neck and hold on for dear life and waited for my feet to hit something solid again, which I hoped was soon. The moment my feet hit the floor of the bell tower, I crumbled. Thankfully, Connor didn’t let me fall, instead he lifted me onto a plush chair. I looked around at the bell tower while I got my nerves under control. Conner sat down, on the floor, off to one side. It was beautiful. With a intricate rug, A nice side table and a large bookshelf. It also looked like there was a small cupboard, mini fridge, and a microwave. “Nice hangout,” I said. I couldn’t keep the awe out of my voice, “Aren’t you worried that you will be found?” “No, not at all,” he said calmly, “the school would tear it down but some people wouldn’t let them. They said that it gives the school character. “Interesting.” I turned towards him, “and what was that for, anyway?” He ran his hand through his thick, dark hair. He does this sometimes when he gets nervous. Sighing he said, “Yeah, sorry about that, I should have warned you. It’s just that I didn’t want anyone to walk around and see me as a vampire. No one except for you, that is. They might think I’m attacking you.” Apology accepted,” I said, “Prove to me that your a vampire, like you say.” His eyes go wide in a mock surprise at this. “I thought flying would be enough proof for anyone,” he said jokingly, “but I should have guessed you would need more.” He stuck out his left arm and pulled up his sleeve to reveal a mark that was burned, I think, into the skin on his wrist. The mark looked like (-\-). “It’s CA,” he said,” for Connor Allen.” I grabbed the back of his hand and pulled it toward me, so I could study his wrist. Then, I bombarded him with questions. “When did you get it?” “About one month ago.” “Did it hurt?” “No, not really.” I looked up at him, “How did you get it? It looks like it was burned, but you say it didn’t hurt or, at least, not that much.” He meet my gaze with his ocean blue eyes and said in the most serious voice, “My mentor bit my wrist and the mark appeared.” “Someone bit you?!?!” He laughed at this. “THat’s not funny!” I bristled, “Anyway just because you have a weird mark on your wrist doesn't mean your a vampire.” I snorted. “Now, show me your fangs.”He sighed deeply then. “Fine,” he said reluctantly,”but you can’t touch them. If you do they might puncture your skin. You would then become my drudge or, in other words, my human slave. Whatever I said you would have to do, whether you wanted to or not.” “I swear on my life, again!” I said, “Now. Do I need to repeat myself?” He then threw his hands up in defeat. They then fell into his lap as he closed his eyes. He then slowly opened his mouth to reveal perfectly straight teeth. “See,” I said pointing at his mouth, “no fangs. So, you were joking, I kne…” My words faded out and my jaw dropped. I watch in awe as Connors top canines grew into inch long fangs. “Alright I believe you. Your a vampire.” I said, even though I was shaking my head in disbelief. They then shrunk back to their human size and Connor closed his mouth. “I know,” he said, “unbelievable, right!” All I could do was nod. After a few seconds I regained my ability of speech. “You aren’t gothic!?!?” I blurted. My hands flew to cover my mouth and I mumbled through my hands, “I’m sorry, that sounded rude.” “No no,” he said quickly, “it’s fine. I probably would have said the same thing, So don’t worry about it.” I studied him for a bit trying to figure out why Connor had shown me this. He looked at me after a little bit and found me staring at him. “What are you staring at?” he asked.”Why?” I asked. Why what? “Why me?” He appeared thoughtful for a moment. Then said in a serious voice, “You are the one person in this school that I would trust with my life.” I could tell he wanted to say more but held back. I would have to be careful and see if I could get him to slip up and tell me what he was hiding.(not done) About the story: I got a story starter book and this is one of the stories that was in it.
